2 things dawned on me after reading the results of this poll. 1, I had never actually heard that James Blunt song all the way through. I hunted it down, and, uh, well, it's not THE most annoying song I've ever heard, but it's not my cup of tea either (9 and 10 though, oh the pain). And 2, I haven't posted anything list related in a long, long time. Let's rectify that right now:
SOPPY ballad You’re Beautiful by JAMES BLUNT has been voted the most irritating song of all time.
The single was No1 in 11 countries in 2005, including five weeks in Britain.
Second in the poll to find the song that grates most was Axel F by CRAZY FROG, which was No1 in 13 countries.
Next was Mmm Bop by HANSON, top of the UK charts for three weeks in 1997.
John Sewell, of market researchers www.onepoll.com, said: “James Blunt isn’t the obvious choice, but any song that is at No1 for so long does start to get annoying.”
The most recent song was this year’s Grace Kelly by MIKA and the oldest was LULU’s Shout (1964).
TOP 10:
1. You’re Beautiful — James Blunt. 2. Axel F — Crazy Frog. 3. Mmm Bop — Hanson. 4. Mr Blobby — Mr Blobby. 5. Birdie Song — The Tweets. 6. Shout — Lulu. 7. Agadoo — Black Lace. 8. Grace Kelly — Mika. 9. My Heart Will Go On — Celine Dion. 10. La Macarena — Los Del Rio.

List Learnin'
There are three reasons why I'm posting this:
1. It's been awhile since I've posted a list, and I'm getting antsy.
2. After I talked about all the many and varied things I learned in 8th grade history, I came across this list of the ten best teachers in the movies on This Site, and I thought after I posted about teachers and movies the other day that was rather strange, so I took it as some sort of sign.
3. I will do anything I have to do to get that last post further down on the page.
I guess it's an okay list, but of course, I found fault in it, mainly because it doesn't have this Guy on it (and I say that without a trace of irony: I. Loved. That. Movie.) It's weird how specific some of these lists are. I'm sure if I looked hard enough, I could find a list of the 10 best movies that feature left-handed guys with blonde hair, that also wear glasses and chew bubble gum. I'm afraid to check....
1. Georges Lopez (To Be and To Have)
2. Jaime Escalante (Stand and Deliver) Edward James Olmos
3. John Keating (Dead Poets Society) Robin Williams
4. Mark Thackeray (To Sir, With Love) Sidney Poitier
5. Mr. Hand (Fast Times at Ridgemont High) Ray Walston
6. Glenn Holland (Mr. Holland's Opus) Richard Dreyfuss
7. Dave Jennings (Animal House) Donald Sutherland
8. Miss Shields (A Christmas Story)
9. Mr. Chips (Goodbye, Mr. Chips) Robert Donat
10. Terry Corrigan (Class of 1984) Roddy McDowall

The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
Awhile back, I said I was going to make a list of my favorite horror movies, and I figured if I don't do it now, there's really no point in it. Seeing as how I'm spending tonight at home, fending off trick or treaters (Harper got her's done on saturday), and have nothing else better to do, I will regale you with some of my faves.
The inclusion of a film on this list does not necessarily mean that the movie scared me-since I passed 20 years old, and have experienced the horrors of the real world, it takes a LOT to frighten me (matter of fact, I'd say that the scariest movie I've ever seen is Steel Magnolias:diabetic daughter grows up, gets married, has baby, drops dead. Well shit, LET'S WATCH IT AGAIN!). No, these are just movies that I liked for one reason or another. And they aren't in order of how much I like them, I instead opted for chronological order. Picky, picky, picky.
Nosferatu
Freaks
White Zombie
Cat People
The Bad Seed
A Bucket of Blood
Peeping Tom
The Haunting
2000 Maniacs ( I have a distinct memory of watching this with my mom when I was around 9 years old. My mom rocks.)
Repulsion
Night of the Living Dead
Don't Look Now
Black Christmas
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Trilogy of Terror
Carrie
Suspiria
Halloween
The Shining
The Evil Dead (Duh.)
The Funhouse (I don't know why, I just liked it.)
My Bloody Valentine
Christine
The Dead Zone (The image of Nicholas Campbell sliding those scissors into his mouth will be with me for the rest of my life. The rest of my LIFE.)
A Nightmare on Elm Street (This is one of those that scared the shit out of me when I first saw it. Now, it's almost quaint.)
April Fool's Day (Excellent movie, highly underrated.)
Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer (Ok, THAT one scared me.)
The Hitcher (I love Rutger Hauer, plus the movie gets bonus points, because when I watched it with one of my friends a few years back, the scene where that Howell guy spits on him and he SMELLS IT, literally made her puke.)
Bad Taste
Evil Dead II
Near Dark
The Stepfather
It
Candyman
Dead Alive
Army of Darkness
The Frighteners
Exorcist: The Version You Haven't Seen Before (Why this one and not the original? 2 words: Back Bend.)
Jeepers Creepers
28 Days Later
Shaun of the Dead
I'm gonna remember more later, I just know it, so I reserve the right to edit this list as I see fit. Obsessive compulsiveness:Now THAT'S scary.

Me, Defined
I happened to glance at the 'about me' profile on my blog, and I figured that since my daughter has a birthday coming up in a few weeks, I'd change it. The trouble is, what should I say? I started on it, and each time I finished with it, it either looked too impersonal, or it was too long. I finally ended up deciding that when she does have her birthday, I'd just switch the '7' to an '8' and be done with it.
I also got to thinking about the fact that when I post, I hardly ever post anything about myself. You can pick up a few tidbits here and there, but for the most part, I come off as detached and guarded, which, granted, I sometimes can be. So, I thought, why don't I just lay myself out bare in a post? Mind you, you won't find any earth-shattering information here, like how old I was when I lost my virginity, or a heartfelt admission about my $1,000-a-day cocaine habit (not really), this is mostly just basic superficial info that one would pick up about me if they were around me on a daily basis. Some of this stuff you already know if you've read this blog for a while, some of it's stuff that only a handful of people know about, and mostly, I'm just typing stuff down as it comes to me, so if I don't say something in particular, it's not because I'm hiding some big secret-I just forgot, or it doesn't matter (not that ANY of this matters, but whatever). Also, there's no order to it-it's basically just a random jumble of things. And don't expect to find anything funny or heartwarming-these are just the facts.
I am a single mother-my daughter is my world. As I type this, I am currently without a job (thinking of making some big changes in regards to vocation). I have three pets-2 dogs, and a rabbit. I smoke-too much. I have a half-sister and a half-brother-I'm the youngest. My parents are still married to each other. I'm related to Doc Holliday on my dad's side of the family. I'm left handed. I like the color blue. I use humor alot, I also tend to be sarcastic-it's a defense, I suppose. If I could, I'd sleep during the day, and be up at night-I feel unnatural sleeping during the normal hours. I don't like to go out-I'm not a social person by nature. When I laugh, I bray like a jackass-very loudly too. I'm shy, and it sometimes comes off as snobbiness. I never learned how to ride a bike. Also, I can't skate. I don't drink alcohol. I know how to juggle. I'm double-jointed. I'm a bit of a nerd, and I have no problem with it. I like lists, any kind, really-I'm always jotting down some random grouping of things. I like showers over baths-I've never liked sitting in a stew of my own filth. I like cereal-I even eat it for dinner some days. My favorite season is winter. I feel sick to my stomach when I enter a school-I don't know why. I'm a democrat-sort of middle-of-the-road, I guess. I hate emptying the dishwasher. My most prized possession is a trophy my maternal grandmother won in a beauty contest in 1932, that's bent because she hit her date over the head with it. I say the word "Goddammit" too much. I like diet Sprite-it tastes clean. I still miss my dog, Gypsy, that died 4 years ago. I still like to color. I own too many pairs of sunglasses. I'm afraid of clowns and ventriliquist dummies. I like cardinals.
Hmmmm.....
I love Mystery Science Theater 3000-Joel over Mike, I'm unyielding in that. I think Joss Whedon is a genius. I've had a huge crush on Hugo Weaving for several years. I love Zero 7. I think Kurt Vonnegut is the most brilliant mind in the history of literature. I hope the Simpsons never go off the air. I think that Plan 9 From Outer Space and Reefer Madness are 2 of the greatest stories ever told. I think that Quint in Jaws was the best character ever put on film. I hate Tom Cruise. I love Bruce Campbell. I wish Joey Ramone was still alive. I have a girl-crush on Lauren Graham. I think the Smile Time episode of Angel was the best hour of anything ever televised. Also, as far as I'm concerned, if you look up the word 'Hot' in the dictionary, you'll see a picture of James Marsters. I love watching Golden Girls and M*A*S*H reruns. My most hated film character of all time is Noah Cross from Chinatown. I prefer Brian Cox over Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter. I think Dolly Parton is cool. I like the name Apple-I wish I'd thought of it before Gwyneth Paltrow did. When I'm depressed, I watch old movies-especially anything with Rosalind Russell. I hate love stories. I like horror movies. I think Wild, Wild West with Will Smith is the worst movie I've ever seen. I still get goose bumps when I see the final 5 or so minutes of the Usual Suspects. My favorite actress is Cate Blanchett. I wish Rutger Hauer was still making lots of movies. I wish Lindsay Lohan made FEWER movies. I wish Paris Hilton would just die already.
Oh, and I like jigsaw puzzles.
So, that's pretty much what you'd pick up if you read my mind. Like I said, no mind-blowing information there, but I feel better sharing those little nuggets. Now, do you see why I couldn't put all that in my profile?
Oh My.....
A-HAHAHAHAHAHA!! Ohhhhh.... Ahem. I wasn't going to post another list for a week. I figure that I tend to go overboard with them, so I've decided to start pacing myself, but I saw this, and I couldn't resist. Could. Not. Resist.
Considering how much I love bad movies, I guess it's only natural that I would also love bad lists, and this one is a doozy. This guy has made a list of 10 great American TV series. Now, you won't find anything like Twin Peaks, The Simpsons, MASH, or any other crap like that-madness to even think those are good shows-what's wrong with you? However, you will find stuff like The Fall Guy and Manimal. The Hoff even makes an appearance.
Keep in mind that it is not my intention to mean-spiritedly mock the guy who posted this-it's obvious that where he lives, these shows haven't been off the air that long, or they are just getting some of them, and most likely, these are the only type of shows they get (I'm HOPING that's the case, anyway). I think the whole thing is quaint, and kinda cute. Mine is a gentle, friendly mocking.
You know I'm falling all over myself to check the archives for any other lists. You better believe it.

Top 40 Countdown
I was gallivanting around the internet last night, looking for an interesting list (yes, in case you were wondering, I actually DO go around searching for them) and I came across This Here.
What that there is, is a list of the top forty uses of pop music in film. Their main criteria, was that the music be something that had already been released, in other words, not something that had been performed expressly for the film. That doesn't matter really, but I can dig that kind of anal-retentive approach to list making. Also, they get bonus points for utilizing You Tube: if a list entry had a corresponding clip available, they posted it.
That's not to say that I'm completely enamoured with the list: they had 10 Things I Hate About You on there, not once, but TWICE. I don't have anything against 10TIHAY particularly, but I can think of 2 film/music moments better than those, right off the top of my head. Then again, they did have Harold and Maude and Manhunter (two of the best movies EVER) on there, so I can't hate them just for that.
However, since I watched all the clips they posted, I now have the second half of this song in my head. I CAN and WILL hate them for THIS.

Were You NOT Expecting This?
I realize it's still early in the month, but I just love Halloween. It's always been my favorite holiday. (is it classified as a holiday? If not, what is it exactly? People don't get the day off from work, or school, so I'm thinking no. They should, though.) I get so excited every year, looking at the costumes and decorations, and now that I'm a mother, I also get to live vicariously through my daughter, helping her pick out her costume (what does she want to be this year, I asked her? Her response? Does she want to be a fairy princess, a ballerina, some generic cartoon character? Nope, she wants to be a vampire. That's my girl.)
One of the ways I celebrate the season, is by watching horror movies. I do this all year round, but during October, it's easier, and somehow more socially acceptable to watch them than it is to watch them at, say, Christmas time. So, taking my love of horror movies, AND my well-known love of lists into account, last night I did some searching for a LIST of HORROR MOVIES. I'm so predictable.
It's hard to find a decent list of horror films. Even Wikipedia, who has a list of what is supposed to be every horror movie ever made, is woefully incomplete. Then, you have the ones that some random so-and-so puts together, which is what I'm posting today. (I might make up my own at some point this month-believe me, you haven't seen the last horror/Halloween related post from me.)
This list is kind of..Blah. There's 100 movies on it, and an inordinate amount of them are sequels. I'm also thinking this isn't in order of what's scariest: Henry:Portrait of a Serial Killer comes in at #100, and that movie gave me the heebie-jeebies more than any other movie on this list. Not too many foreign horror films made the cut (wherefore art thou, Cannibal Holocaust?) and the top 20, which is what I'm posting, is like if the AFI made a list of horror movies.
Why am I posting a list that I don't really agree with? Oh people, one of the great things about a list, is picking it apart, and mocking the parentage of the person who made the list. Have I taught you nothing?
20. Child's Play (Pffffffffft!)
19. Alien (Is this considered a horror movie? It's a great movie, don't get me wrong, but where exactly does the line fall between horror and science fiction?)
18. Dead Alive (Features one of the best lines in film history:"I KICK ASS FOR THE LORD!")
17. Friday the 13th 2 (Ok, help me out here: In the first one, the killer turned out to be Mrs. Vorhees, all dressed up for an Indigo Girls concert, and avenging her dead son. This is the one where Jason is actually introduced. Was he supposed to have died, or did he live, and he just grew up fending for himself in the woods around Crystal Lake? I'm still a little foggy on that.)
16. Wes Craven's New Nightmare (That's the one where Heather Langenkamp plays herself, correct? S'okay, I guess. Different.)
15. Evil Dead 2 Dead by Dawn (OK, a little back story here: I love the Evil Dead series, with all my heart. I lap up any information about it as though it were candy and heroin, all mixed together. I even have a semi-crush on Sam Raimi. I'm a big nerd, yes, I don't care. This is my favorite of the three films. Is it scary? NO.)
14. Scream 2 (I don't think I even REMEMBER Scream 2. I know I watched it, but other than that, I couldn't tell you anything about it.)
13. Halloween 2 (Want a good time? Watch this while you're in the hospital.)
12. Dawn of the Dead (I've wracked my brain, and I don't think I've ever actually seen this. I saw the remake, but I never got around to this one. I'm filled with shame.)
11. Evil Dead (I've covered this. But I will add, that the first time I TRIED to watch this one, at the whopping age of 8 years old, it did scare the bejesus out of me. I finally gave it another try at age 16. It's gory, but not as scary as I'd made it out to be in my mind. Now I watch it at least three times a year.)
10. Hellraiser (I hated all the characters in Hellraiser, and it tickled me when Pinhead eviscerated them. I have anger issues.)
9. The Shining (I love the Shining. It's claustrophobic, and isolated, and it's also set in a cold location. For some reason, those three things are very unsettling to me. Plus, little Danny is cute, and I didn't have the urge to smack him, which is a rarity for me when I see kids in movies.)
8. Night of the Living Dead (I ♥ Johnny)
7. The Exorcist (I once started watching the Exorcist one morning before school, and I stayed home just to finish it. It's a good movie, but it didn't really frighten me. HOWEVER, when they re-released it with added footage, the scene of Regan doing that back-bend walk thing down the stairs was very....UPSETTING.)
6. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (I. Hate. Franklin. To this day. If I ever met the actor who played him, I would kick him in the nuts. I'm not kidding.)
5. Psycho (Suspense film, not horror. Just try and convince me otherwise.)
4. Friday the 13th (Ah, Kevin Bacon and his reverse tracheotomy. Good times.)
3. Scream (Am I the only person who didn't really like Scream? I just found the whole pop-culture awareness thing really tiresome.)
2. Nightmare on Elm Street (This is another "Scared the shit out of me at the time" movie. I watched this with my cousins when I was in the 4th grade. I slept about 2 hours that night, and I spent the rest of the night watching tv, including Dog Day Afternoon. An odd choice for a kid, but that was me:Odd. It doesn't scare me now, except Johnny Depp's poofy hair; THAT'S a little unnerving.)
1. Halloween (Good movie, scary, and it doesn't have the need to show you everything, great score, too. If you've got a 5 year old nephew, watch it with him-it's a comedy goldmine.)

Dark and Lovely
I haven't posted anything list related in a while, and I'm starting to get ants in the pants because of it. This is a list of 10 great dark comedies, from MSNBC of all places. Notice it's not the "10 Greatest Dark Comedies"; just "Great" dark comedies. I will forgive them their wishy-washy list stance, however, because I love all of these movies. Except for one. The first person to guess which one I hated wins a cookie....Okay, so it's a picture of a cookie. It's the thought that counts.
10. Serial Mom (1994)
9. Raising Arizona (1987)
8. M*A*S*H (1970)
7. Swimming with Sharks (1994)
6. Withnail & I (1987)
5. Harold and Maude (1971)
4. Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949)
3. Bad Santa (2003)
2. Heathers (1989)
1. Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (1964)

Jamie Bueller's Day Off
Remember way back, when was it-yesterday, when I listed my most favorite tv characters of all time? The list where I left out all but one of the characters from the Joss Whedon ouvre? 'Member that? Well, I was flipping through the menu on the digital cable thingy, and I noticed that the Sci-Fi Channel is having an all-day Firefly marathon tomorrow (I'm having a total nerdgasm just thinking about it).
I took this as a sign of two things. 1) Seeing as how I'm still kind of sick, I'm thinking that I should do nothing else monday, other than veg out in front of the tv and watch said marathon(If watching two of my tv husbands-Nathan and Adam-doesn't make me feel better, then I should just fill my pockets up with rocks and walk into a river, because CLEARLY, if those fine specimens of manhood don't perk me up, nothing will) and 2) I should give in to my urge to list all my favorite Jossverse people (Jossverse=Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel: The Series, and Firefly. That's ACTUALLY what it's referred to as. I swear I'm not making it up.)
You'll notice that this list is substantially longer than the other one. Plus, after this, I promise to give the lists a rest for a while. I just love lists, though-my own, other people's-it's an addiction. Unlike the other list, I tried to put these in some kind of an order. If there's one thing I love as much as making a list, it's playing favorites. I'm sure that absolutely NO ONE gives a rat's ass about any of this, but I wanna do it, so nyah-nyah.
1. Allen Francis Doyle -Angel
2. Winifred 'Fred' Burkle -Angel
3. Lorne -Angel
4. Hoban 'Wash' Washburne -Firefly
5. Puppet Angel -Angel
6. Spike -BtVS, Angel

This is What Happens When I'm Bored and Sick
I am having a crappy saturday. Come to think of it, my last 3 saturdays have all been rather lacking, but today, I feel especially lousy, and to top it off, I'm pretty sure there's a bowling ball lodged in my cranium. I won't even mention what's going on in my intestines...
So anyway, I saw on Whedonesque where Joss Whedon, creator of my 3 most beloved shows ever, posted a list of his 25 favorite tv characters. Like I said, I'm sick, and above all BORED, so I'm taking a page from his book and doing the same. Except not 25, more like 15 or so. Unlike Mr. Whedon, I have to include at least ONE of his characters. I HAVE to, but I'm not listing all of my favorite people from his shows, because then the list would end up comprised of only BtVS, Angel and Firefly characters.
I'll tell ya, looking over this list was kind of like a bizarre glimpse into my psyche. I'm a little surprised, and also, I watched way too much television when I was growing up.
These are in no particular order, and in some cases, I'm not adding anything to the names, because for a few of these, I don't know why I like the character, I just DO.
- Allen Francis Doyle-Angel. (Get this one out of the way first)
- Kitty Russell-Gunsmoke. I don't like westerns, usually, but I liked Gunsmoke, and Kitty. She was neither a schoolmarm, nor a whore, nor a farm wife. She was a self-assured woman with her own business, and she didn't take any shit, but she wasn't a bitch either.
- Lorelei Gimore-Gilmore Girls. Her parenting style is the only one on tv that I can relate to. Because of that, I can almost forgive her for jerking Luke around so much.
- Lucille Bluth-Arrested Development. It was a tie between her and Gob, but he lost points because of the magic tricks.
- Christian Troy-Nip/Tuck. Sexy, sexy, sexy bastard.
- Justin Crowe-Carnivale. Creepy, creepy, creepy bastard.
- Carl Kolchak-The Night Stalker. The Darren McGavin one, not that wussy guy that boinks Charlize Theron.
- Mandy-The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy.
- House!
- Crow T. Robot-Mystery Science Theater 3000. Best. Puppet. Ever
- Agent Dale Cooper-Twin Peaks. Way cooler than Mulder.
- Mel Profitt-Wiseguy. Kevin Spacey. That is all.
- Columbo. Yes, I like Columbo-what of it?
- Dorothy Zbornak-Golden Girls. Me in about 30 years.
- Leland Stottlemeyer-Monk. He's just cool, plus bonus points for making me get over: "It puts the lotion on it's skin"
- Lisa Simpson-The Simpsons. Runners-up: Patty and Selma.
I have to go take a nap now. And vomit.
(Edit-I wasn't going to go back and add any more, but I thought of this one, and I had to, I absolutely HAD to put it on here: Lucas Buck-American Gothic. Mmmm, evily goodness....)(2nd Edit: Darlene Connor-Roseanne. Thanks to Jenner for reminding me.)

SupercalifragiLISTic-DOH!
I wasn't going to post another list so soon after the last one. By "wasn't going to post", I mean that I was. That was a lie. But it's an entertaining lie, and in the end, isn't that all that really matters? The answer is no.
Presenting, the top 25 Simpsons guest stars, as picked by these people . I underlined the ones I liked, because my opinion is really what matters here:
25. Glenn Close
24. Aerosmith
23. The Hullapalooza performers (Smashing Pumpkins, Cypress Hill, Sonic Youth, Peter Frampton)
22. Tito Puente
21. James Taylor
20. The cast of Cheers
19. Mel Gibson
18. Spinal Tap
17.The Pro Baseball Players in "Homer at the Bat" (Roger Clemens, Wade Boggs, Ken Griffey Jr., Steve Sax, Ozzie Smith, José Canseco, Don Mattingly, Darryl Strawberry, Mike Scioscia and Terry Cashman as themselves)
16. Stephen Hawking
15. The Ramones
14. Johnny Cash
13. Elizabeth Taylor
12. Ron Howard
11. Leonard Nimoy
10. The Beatles (George Harrison "Homer's Barbershop Quartet", Ringo Starr "Brush With Greatness", Paul McCartney "Lisa the Vegetarian")
9. John Waters
8. Jon Lovitz (Various)
7. James Earl Jones
6. Winona Ryder
5. Michael Jackson
4. The Krusty Comeback Performers (Bette Midler, Hugh Hefner, Johnny Carson, Luke Perry and the Red Hot Chili Peppers as themselves)
3. Dustin Hoffman
2. Mark Hamill
1. Albert Brooks (Various)
(I would just like to point out, that Simpsons creator Matt Groening and I have the same opinion as far as our most favorite guest star(s). It doesn't mean anything, but I'm posting the clip of them anyway.)

AFI=Ass-Faced Idiots
The American Film Institute, compilers of the most boring lists in the known universe, have recently crafted their picks for the top 25 musicals from the last 100 years.
http://www.afi.com/tvevents/100years/musicals.aspx
Let's take a look at their top 10 oh-so-earth shattering selections:
1. Singin' in the Rain
2. West Side Story
3. The Wizard of Oz
4. The Sound of Music
5. Cabaret
6. Mary Poppins
7. A Star is Born
8. My Fair Lady
9. An American in Paris
10. Meet Me in St. Louis
Fine. I enjoy an old musical now and then, usually when I'm depressed and it's winter and rainy outside (Specific? Yes), but I can honestly say that no force on this earth could ever make me watch Chicago(12) again. It does not deserve to be on a list, not only with, but right next to The King and I (11)(I LOVE that movie, I cry EVERY SINGLE TIME).
My main problem with this list, is that there is no trace of this anywhere in the 25:

Morbid Fascination
I have a dark side. It's not blaringly obvious. I don't light kittens on fire or poke people with hat pins while I'm walking down the sidewalk. No, it manifests itself in other ways.
Like an appreciation of weird deaths. I have a preference for the more ironic deaths, like Redd Foxx dropping dead of a heart attack and everyone thinking he was faking it. Not that I have anything against Redd Foxx, but come on: the irony is perfect there. To be fair, in the case of celebrities, when one of them dies, I don't get all that choked up. I think there was only one instance where I actually cried when someone famous died. I didn't bawl or anything, but I did tear up when Glenn Quinn died, but that's the only one I can think of. For the most part, I just say, "That's a shame", and go about my business. I'm not uncaring, not by a long shot, I just don't see any point in getting upset every time there's a death in the world. If I did, I'd cry all the time.
I do have some guilt, because there's quite a few instances, upon hearing of a particular cause of death, I have actually laughed out loud. Someone dies on the toilet? I'm on the FLOOR. I can't read about the Darwin Awards without being doubled over in pain. I'm just not a very nice person. Here's a few deaths-some well known, some not-that I found to be unusual. To quote Homer Simpson: "It's funny, 'cuz I don't know him."
453: Attila the Hun suffered a severe nosebleed and choked to death on his wedding night.-(Way to go out with your boots on)
1016:Edmund II of England was rumoured to have been smacked in the head by a soldier who was waiting for him behind the toilet.-(Wah, wah, Waaaah.)
1327: King Edward II of England, after being deposed and imprisoned by his Queen consort Isabella and her lover Roger Mortimer, was rumored to have been murdered by having a red-hot iron inserted into his anus.
1884: Allan Pinkerton, detective, died of gangrene resulting from having bitten his tongue after stumbling on the sidewalk.-(That's going to be what happens to me, I just know it.)
1911: Jack Daniel, founder of the famous Tennessee whiskey distillery, died of blood poisoning due to a toe injury he received after kicking his safe in anger when he could not remember its combination code.-(Or possibly this.)
1916: The English satirist, novelist and wit Saki was killed in France, during World War I by a sniper's bullet, having reportedly cried "Put that damned cigarette out!" to a fellow officer in his trench lest the glowing embers reveal their whereabouts.
1927: Isadora Duncan, dancer, died of accidental strangulation and broken neck when her scarf caught on the wheel of a car in which she was a passenger. Her last words before the car drove off were "Adieu, mes amis. Je vais à la gloire". (Farewell, my friends! I go to glory!)
1953: Frank Hayes, jockey, suffered a heart attack during a horse race. The horse, Sweet Kiss, went on to finish first, making Hayes the only deceased jockey to win a race.
1971: Jerome Irving Rodale, an American pioneer of organic farming, died of a heart attack while being interviewed on the Dick Cavett Show. When he appeared to fall asleep, Cavett quipped "Are we boring you, Mr. Rodale?". The show was never broadcast.
1987: R. Budd Dwyer, a Republican politician, committed suicide during a televised press conference. Facing a potential 55-year jail sentence for alleged involvement in a conspiracy, Dwyer shot himself in the mouth with a revolver.-(This one makes me wince. Despite talk about how great a guy he was, he took bribes and killed himself on live televison. During a statewide snowstorm. The schools were closed that day-get the picture?)
2005: Kenneth Pinyan, an Enumclaw, WA. man, died of acute peritonitis after submitting to anal intercourse with a stallion. The man had done this before, though apparently this time his partner was a little too keen, and he delayed several hours to visit hospital wishing to avoid official cognisance. The case led to the criminalization of bestiality in Washington.-(I don't know what's worse here: How he died, or the fact that the state of Washington needed any impetus to outlaw bestiality)
I've gone on long enough, but I can't leave out the story of Lupe Velez. Lupe was a film star back in the 1930s. The official story is that she was upset because she was pregnant and her married lover wouldn't leave his wife. So, she took some pills, they made her sick and she dropped dead on the bathroom floor. The UNofficial story, and in my opinion, the GREATEST DEATH STORY EVER, is that she was upset because her career was on the wane. She wanted to be remembered as being glamourous and beautiful. So, she gussied herself up, took a cocktail of tranquilizers and lay down on the bed, waiting for death to come and whisk her away. Unfortunately, the spicy meal she had earlier decided to repeat on her. She got violently ill, ran into the bathroom and died with her head in the toilet, which was how she was found. Now, which story do YOU like better?

I Don't Plan On Living THAT Long
I recently came across this book, "1001 Movies to See Before You Die". It's interesting, and while I do love lists, 1001 seemed a bit too steep of an amount. I had some time on my hands today, so I whittled it down to the 50 films I think people should see before they die, using only the films listed in the book. 50 is still quite a large number, but I just kept adding and I couldn't take any off, so this is what you get. Keep in mind, that I haven't seen every movie on the list of 1001, so if I left some great piece of cinema off of my list, I either A) Haven't seen it. Or B) Went against the grain and didn't like it. There's even a few movies that I loved that aren't even on the list, so I'm not including them...Although, if I like a movie enough to call it a favorite, it's a given that everyone in the free world should see it before they die. Just tuck that tidbit away for later usage.

"Movie Dicks"
If there's anything I love as much as a list, it's a mindless pop-culture poll. Of course, if I was naming my own most hated film assholes, it would probably be a toss-up between Biff Tannen in the Back to the Future series and Frank Burns in the film version of MASH. Now that I think about it, I could list characters I hate all day and never run out of names. True, Billy Zabka WAS a massive jerk in the Karate Kid, just not one I would probably would have come up with. BTW: Whatever happened to Billy Zabka? Is Billy Zabka still working? Is it possible for me to get tired of saying the name "Zabka"? I really don't think so..
KARATE KID bully BILLY ZABKA has topped a poll of 'movie dicks' in a new GQ magazine survey. The champion wrestler played blond JOHNNY LAWRENCE in the cult 1984 martial arts movie, and has beaten out WEDDING CRASHERS' jock ZACHARY LODGE and NATIONAL LAMPOON'S ANIMAL HOUSE character GREG MARMALADE to top the GQ poll. The top five movie dicks are: 1. BILLY ZABKA as JOHNNY LAWRENCE in THE KARATE KID 2. BRADLEY COOPER as ZACHARY LODGE in WEDDING CRASHERS 3. JAMES DAUGHTON as GREG MARMALADE in NATIONAL LAMPOON'S ANIMAL HOUSE 4. ERIQ LA SALLE as DARRYL JENKS in COMING TO AMERICA 5. ROBERT PRESCOTT as COLE WHITTIER in BACHELOR PARTY.

This Word You Use, Independent, I Don't Think it Means What You Think it Means
A list! YAY! Ahem. Excuse me.
The Internet Movie Database has a list of the top 50 independent films of all time, as voted on by their users. Now, I'm not feeling too good this morning, so I'm not going to get into what I think defines an indie movie and what doesn't. I will say that the inclusion of some of these films did raise my eyebrow (yes, just the one). HOWEVER, the film snob in me audibly scoffed upon seeing one of the films further down on the list. Guess which one it is.
The top 10:
1.Pulp Fiction(1994)
2.One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest(1975)
3.The Usual Suspects(1995)
4.Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb(1964)
5.Psycho (1960)
6.Memento (2000)
7.The Silence of the Lambs(1991)
8.Apocalypse Now (1979)
9.Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind(2004)
10.To Kill a Mockingbird(1962)

Keeping with my prefered subjects of lists and bad films, I'm posting this link to a *Drumroll* List of bad movies! This list is kind of old, and I have a problem with some of their picks, for a couple of reasons:
Some of the movies on there are not the worst by far. (the first Texas Chainsaw Massacre is an American classic, thankyouverymuch) and I think they included some others for the sheer reason it has become cool not to like certain blockbuster movies.
Some of their choices are just too obvious (Plan 9 has been beaten like a dead horse when it comes to bad film choices, and it seems kind of lazy to add it at this point. I'm not saying it isn't bad, it is GLORIOUSLY awful, but, God people, at least TRY to come up with something different).
There are a slew of lesser- known films out there that are worse than most of what they came up with here (I say "most", not all-Manos: the Hands of Fate got a mention) . They also seem to be biased toward the last 25 years of movies, and neglect some of the straight-up shit that flooded the cinema in the 60s and 70s and earlier decades. Did any of these people ever see I Spit on Your Grave?
I guess the only reason I'm posting it, is because it was the only large list of it's kind I could find.
Hell, maybe I should make my own list.
